Bankruptcy and the Constitution

Scripture was vital to our Founding Fathers. So too was Bankruptcy. It was so important that they included it in the US Constitution before defining the Bill of Rights, which includes our freedom of speech and religion, due process, trial by jury, and prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment.

With its roots in the Bible, modern bankruptcy laws were instituted by the federal government to provide relief for overburdened debtors and to offer them an opportunity to get a "fresh start".

Bankruptcy should no longer be thought of as a last resort. In fact, the sooner bankruptcy is considered a viable option, the sooner the debtor can regain his or her dignity and become a more productive member of society, helping the economy recover. There is no question that bankruptcy should be considered patriotic.
