Bankruptcy Law: We Practice What We Teach!

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Doan Law Firm’s experience and expertise in Bankruptcy law was called upon by LawReviewCle to lead a Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 CLE (Continuing Legal Education) workshops in Riverside and Santa Ana. The nonprofit organization seeks and selects attorneys who represent the best in their area of practice. Once selected, they are asked to train other attorneys in their field to provide information on advanced legal practice and update their credentials.

In April, Doan Law Firm managing attorney, Anthony Vigil, conducted a workshop for 30 legal professionals on both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 at the historic Mission Inn in Riverside, California. His presentation included a step-by-step workshop oriented class on filling out Bankruptcy Petition forms and local Chapter 13 Plan forms in addition to nuances that arise from practicing in the Central Division of California. Later this month Mr. Vigil will conduct a similar workshop in Anaheim.

Vigil’s outstanding success as a bankruptcy attorney has furthered Doan Law Firm’s passion to help others and their ambition to maintain the highest level of excellence in the field of bankruptcy law.  Vigil’s donation of time to the CLE program aligns well with the Doan Difference™. At Doan Law Firm we continually try to raise the bar for Bankruptcy client care.

It’s Overwhelming For Everyone

Monday, November 15th, 2010

If you find your financial situation overwhelming, you’re not alone.  I spoke with a new client last week, I’ll call her Cathy, who was literally in tears.  She was in tears over her financial situation and later shed tears of relief at finding someone she feels comfortable with and can trust.

Cathy has run a successful business for over 10 years and as the economy changed, she began to accumulate debt.   When she came to see me,  her minimum monthly credit card payment was over $3,000.  It was literally strangling her business.  She couldn’t buy inventory and the credit card overhead was sucking up every dollar she made.  Cathy told me she needs to retool her business, but the financial stress is sapping up her energy and creativity.  It’s a challenge to get out of bed each day.

I tell you about Cathy so you know you are not alone.  Financial stress is real and debilitating.  At Doan Law Firm we understand and we can guide you to a place of financial tranquility.

Small Business Client Synergy

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

This Saturday found the dedicated employees of Doan Law Firm watching the big screen and snacking.  Which latest blockbuster had them so enthralled?  A seminar on small businesses in bankruptcy lead by the fearless William Leng, of course.  With the help of Rose’s Donuts and Rubio’s, the DLF employees from every office shared their experiences, best practices and sample cases to ensure the best possible representation for our clients with small businesses.  Much was shared and learned by all that rainy Saturday.

Synergize Saturday at Doan Law Firm

Monday, September 27th, 2010

This Saturday saw the best and brightest of Doan Law Firm gather at the mother ship (the San Clemente office) sharing the breakfast of champions, donuts, and lunch of winners, Rubio’s.  Why would case managers, executive assistants and attorneys haul themselves out of bed at 0dark:30, throw on jeans and flip flops and drive (in some cases) hours?  It wasn’t for the old fashioned glazed; it was synergy.

Habit 6 of Steven Covey’s wildly popular The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People is Synergize.  Covey defines synergy as “creative cooperation…teamwork, open-mindedness… It’s a process, and through that process, people bring all their personal experience and expertise to the table.”

Saturday saw a room full of people freely sharing their experience and expertise to continue pushing Doan Law Firm to the next level.  At this session, case managers shared the nitty-gritty details of case processing, and in so doing brought out a ton of incredibly useful information for everyone in attendance

Hearty joking interlaced serious questions and the breath of legal practice and years of professional experience were evident in both the questions and answers.  Also evident was that DLF is a cohesive team despite being spread out over several counties.  Each team member has genuine regard for the other and, darn it, we just like to hang out together.

The true beneficiaries are our clients.  When DLF works together as a team, sharing our experience and expertise, we are stronger at each point – and that’s the goal.  An old fashioned glazed is just a bonus.

Experience Matters

Friday, September 10th, 2010

I used an inexperienced phlebotomist and looked like I’d lost an arm wrestling competition to the Hulk.

I used an inexperienced mechanic and spent quality time on the side of the freeway at high noon.

I used an inexperienced Algebra tutor and raised welts on my head while banging it on the desk.

I used an inexperienced dentist and now I’m having many fillings replaced with a few bonus root canals.

I used an inexperienced hairdresser and you don’t want to hear about that.  I’ll give you one word.  Green.  Make that two.  Short and Green.  I looked like the victor of the aforementioned arm wrestling match.

Bruises heal, hair grows, cars get fixed and so do teeth, but financial calamity can follow you for decades.  Literally decades.

I hear horror stories from clients who used inexperienced bankruptcy attorneys.  One was even told a by the judge to get a “real attorney”.  We want to help, but we have to start at square one.  Just like a contractor won’t come into the middle of a building project and try to reinforce the foundation, straighten the walls and jerry-rig the electrical, a good bankruptcy attorney won’t come in after a hack and try to fix a botched bankruptcy filing.  We start again.  Get it done right the first time, take your fresh start and fly (with an experienced pilot of course).
